Use cases

Six ways people actually use an AI humanizer

The right mode depends entirely on what you are writing and who reads it. Below is what each type of work needs, why that kind of text gets flagged in the first place, and where a rewrite can quietly go wrong if you do not check it.

Before you pick a mode

One idea explains every recommendation on this page: detectors measure regularity, not honesty. They look at how predictable each next word is and how little your sentence lengths vary. Highly edited, highly structured writing scores badly for the same reason machine writing does — it is too even.

So the mode you choose is really a question about how much structural change your document can absorb. Light keeps your shape and nudges the rhythm. Advanced rebuilds sentence rhythm across the whole passage. Stealth reshapes aggressively and needs a read-through before it goes anywhere important. Tone is a separate dial: it decides vocabulary and formality, not how hard the structure gets rewritten.

Essays, theses and lab reports

Advanced or Stealth · Academic tone

Why this text gets flagged

Academic prose is the single most uniform register in English. Fixed structures, hedged claims, no contractions, sentences engineered to be unambiguous — exactly the profile detectors score as machine-written, whether a machine wrote it or not.

How to run it

Run one section at a time rather than the whole dissertation. Keep your citations in the text when you paste; they are protected and returned untouched. After the rewrite, read the argumentative paragraphs out loud — those are where a rewrite is most likely to soften a claim you meant to make sharply.

Watch out for

Check your institution's policy first. If AI assistance is prohibited on an assessment, no rewriting tool makes it permitted.

Freelance and agency blog work

Advanced · Natural or Casual tone

Why this text gets flagged

Clients increasingly run submitted drafts through a detector before paying. A writer who used AI for the outline and first draft can lose an invoice over a score, even when the research and the edit were entirely theirs.

How to run it

Humanize after your own edit, not before. The engine preserves your structure, so anything you fix by hand survives. Use the sentence-alternative picker on your opening and closing paragraphs — those carry the most weight with a reader and are the two places generic phrasing is most obvious.

Watch out for

Casual tone reads well for consumer brands but can undercut B2B copy; Natural is the safer default for mixed audiences.

Marketing and landing page copy

Light or Advanced · Persuasive tone

Why this text gets flagged

AI marketing copy has a recognisable shape: triads everywhere, every paragraph opening with a benefit, and that flat, over-balanced cadence that makes a page feel like it could be selling anything. Readers notice it before any detector does.

How to run it

Light mode is often enough here because the copy is short and you want to keep your own hooks. Rewrite section by section — hero, features, FAQ — rather than pasting a whole page, so you can keep the parts that already sound like your brand.

Watch out for

Product names, prices and feature figures are protected automatically, but reread them anyway before publishing.

Writing in English as a second language

Advanced · Natural tone

Why this text gets flagged

This is the group most unfairly hit by AI detection. Formal register learned from textbooks produces low-variance, grammatically immaculate prose, and multiple studies of detector behaviour have found non-native writing flagged at far higher rates than native writing. The text is genuinely human. The statistics simply do not look it.

How to run it

Paste your own writing, not an AI draft. The engine varies sentence length and replaces formal constructions with the ordinary ones a native speaker would reach for, while leaving your argument exactly as you made it.

Watch out for

If a rewritten sentence changes a nuance you cared about, use the alternatives picker to swap just that sentence rather than rerunning the whole passage.

Documentation and internal knowledge bases

Light · Formal tone

Why this text gets flagged

AI-drafted docs are accurate and unreadable — every section identically shaped, every instruction hedged, nothing signalling which step actually matters. The goal here is not a detector score, it is a document a colleague will finish reading.

How to run it

Light mode with Formal tone loosens the cadence without touching terminology. Code identifiers, versions, flags and URLs are protected, so command examples come back byte-identical.

Watch out for

Do not run reference tables or API parameter lists through it; they should be uniform.

Newsletters and personal writing

Stealth · Casual tone

Why this text gets flagged

Newsletter readers subscribe to a voice. The fastest way to lose them is three issues in a row that sound like a competent stranger wrote them, which is precisely what an AI first draft produces.

How to run it

Draft fast with AI, then run Stealth to break the machine cadence, then edit by hand for your own jokes and references. The tool restores rhythm; only you can restore personality.

Watch out for

Stealth reshapes sentences the most, so it needs the most review. Never send an unread Stealth output.

A worked example

Here is the pattern in miniature. An AI-drafted paragraph typically looks like this:

Remote work offers significant advantages for modern organizations. It reduces overhead costs, improves employee satisfaction, and increases overall productivity. However, it also presents notable challenges that companies must address carefully.

Three sentences, 12 to 16 words each, a perfect three-item list in the middle, and a signposted pivot on "However." Nothing is wrong with it. That is the problem — it is too well behaved to have come from a person thinking on the page. A structural rewrite breaks the evenness rather than the meaning:

Remote work saves companies money on office space, and most staff say they prefer it. Productivity holds up too, in most of the studies. The complications are real though, and they tend to show up later than the savings do.

Same claims, same order, no new facts. The list is dissolved, the sentence lengths now range from eight words to twenty-one, and the pivot arrives without announcing itself. That is the whole method, applied one paragraph at a time.

Questions about specific work

Which mode should I use for academic work?
Start with Advanced and an Academic tone. Light rarely moves a score far enough on a formal paper because formal writing is already the most uniform kind of prose there is. Stealth is the strongest option, but it reshapes sentences hard, so read it through before submitting anything that will be marked.
Does rewriting break my citations or statistics?
No. Before the rewrite runs, URLs, in-text citations, numbers, percentages, dates, currency figures and quoted passages are locked behind placeholders, so the model cannot edit them. They are put back verbatim afterwards.
How long can a document be?
Long documents are processed in sections and scored section by section, so a 3,000-word chapter does not degrade after the first two paragraphs the way single-pass tools do. Very long documents are easier to review if you run them a chapter at a time.
Will it work on text I wrote myself that got wrongly flagged?
Often, yes — and this is one of the most common reasons people arrive here. Human writing that is tightly edited, heavily structured, or written by a non-native speaker who learned formal register from textbooks tends to score as machine-written. Rewriting the rhythm usually resolves it.
Can I use it on client work?
Yes. Nothing you paste is used for training, and you can delete any run from your dashboard. If you handle text under an NDA, delete the run once you have copied the output.
